Position summary:

The Application Support Specialist is responsible for the maintenance, support, and security of all the applications required to support Hospital operations, including but not limited to databases and interfaces. The Application Support Specialist also provides expert application support for all internal users, employing a high degree of customer service, technical expertise, and timeliness.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide end-user technical support including maintenance of applications, databases, reports, and interfaces
  • Plan and support application upgrades and enhancements in conjunction with sponsors, users and vendors
  • Conduct problem root cause investigations, resolutions and proposals for follow-up steps such as end-user training or recommendations for alternate application configurations
  •  Apply change management procedures in the application of vendor patches/upgrades and customer enhancement requests
  • Review vendor support sites for upgrade information, release schedules, notifications, and application enhancements
  •  Participate in disaster recovery planning and tests and provide support during system disaster and/or system virus outbreak incidents
  • May be required to conduct classroom and individual training on various systems, including new employee orientation and application proficiency training
  • Participate in curriculum and instructional design, including development of learning aids
  •  Participate in business requirements definition, testing, training, implementation, and support

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications/experience:

  • Diploma or post-secondary education in Computer Science
  •  Desired Certifications:HL7 Certification, Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS), Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA), Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Database Administrator (MCITPD), Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional, Oracle Database Administrator Certified Associate
  • Four (4) to six (6) years of experience in business application design, development, installation, and modification in an online environment
  • Experience in the healthcare industry or in a similar production/service environment
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and ITIL best practice
