Position summary:
The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is an active member of the
Nursing Leadership Team and has responsibilities for implementing
clinical best practices, mentoring nursing staff, consulting on
patient care and providing advice and consultation to Patient Care
Managers regarding nursing staff clinical competency.
Responsibilities will include:
- Models quality nursing practice and facilitates evidence
based practice standards
- Provides advice regarding nursing staff clinical
competency and provides structured feedback for performance
appraisals and retention recommendations
- Works across the organization within nursing, acting in
the roles of change agent and leader in the pursuit of
clinical excellence, improved health outcomes and quality of
care
- Provides clinical consultation on care for patients with
highly complex needs by using advanced assessment,
intervention and evaluation skills based on several
theoretical models (nursing, behavioural and biological
sciences)
- Provides targeted education to nurses in one on one and
group settings, using teachable moments and utilizing adult
learning principles
- Assists with the development of programs designed to
facilitate the transition and growth of the organization
- Guides and supports the nursing team through potential
process changes to clinical policies and procedures that may
be required to support new patient populations served.
- Reports on research findings/observations and implements
process improvement strategies
Successful candidate will possess the following qualifications/experience:
- Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) and Masters in Nursing is
preferred
- 5 years progressive nursing experience in a Hospital
setting and at least 1-2 years as an APN
- Experience working with software systems with advanced
knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- Excellent organizational, analytical, communication and
interpersonal skills
- Ability to accomplish assigned projects within tight
timelines
- Attention to detail and strong leadership and
accountability
- Able to work well in a team environment
